Michael J. Hickey, CFP®

Executive Vice President
Wealth Management Advisor

Michael J. Hickey is an Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Atlas Private Wealth Management. He was the founder of Albany Financial Planners and served as the President of that firm from its formation in 1983 until its merger with Atlas in 2014.

Mike previously supervised Albany Financial Planners’ investment management services and is now a member of Atlas’ Investment Committee. He provides comprehensive financial advisory services to individuals and small businesses. In addition to offering retirement and estate planning services, he also acts as a consultant to several closely-held family businesses. Mike regularly offers “guidance for life’s financial transitions” including assistance for “new wealth” clients who have received sudden wealth from an inheritance, legal settlement, lottery winnings, or sale of a substantial asset.

His 40 years of experience as a business owner began immediately upon his graduation from Siena College in 1976. A member of the Financial Planning Association, he has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional for nearly 30 years.

Mike’s extensive record of volunteer leadership reflects his deep commitment to the community. He served for several years on the American Cancer Society’s Advisory Board for the Capital Region. He was an original member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the School of Business at Siena College, and served in that capacity for a decade. He was on the Board of Directors for the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce for seven years. Over the years, he has chaired several volunteer groups including the Capital Leadership Program, the Environmental Task Force, and the Community Orientation Project. After being appointed by New York Governor Mario Cuomo, he completed two terms on the Albany Port District Commission. Several years ago Mike was Chairman of a countywide task force that helped bring progressive reforms to the local political process and became known as the “Hickey Commission.” He has been an active volunteer in the development of youth leadership programs and as a coach in various youth sports. Mike also served as a church trustee for several years. His current volunteer involvement includes support for improved health care, education, and economic opportunity in under-developed areas of the world. He is also a strong proponent of efforts to improve financial literacy in the U.S.

He and his wife, Elaine, are the proud parents of Brian and Greg.
