Family Promise of the Capital Region
Did you know that 35% of America’s homeless population is comprised of families with children? Atlas Wealth Management Advisor, Lissa McNaughton, along with her husband, Tom, and their three children, ages 15, 13, and 13, spent part of their February Break volunteering for Family Promise of the Capital Region, an affiliate of the national non-profit, Family Promise. Family Promise’s mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence.
Did you know that 35% of America’s homeless population is comprised of families with children?
In Albany’s Capital Region, about fifteen religious congregations provide shelter for one week at a time, four times a year, for up to five homeless families. Lissa and her family were part of the team that helped transform the Mater Christi Parish Center into a “home.” Their goal was to create a safe and comfortable place for these families to live. At the end of the week, Lissa and her family helped return the Parish Center to its original state. Their guests either moved on to the next congregation or to independent living.
