Capital City Rescue Mission and City Mission of Schenectady: Winter Clothing Drive

Atlas team members participated in a winter drive to support the clothing outlets of the Capital City Rescue Mission and the City Mission of Schenectady who serve the physical needs of men, women and children in our region. Clothing not only creates comfort and provides warmth, but it can also deliver confidence, and become the difference between finding and landing a job.

Capital City Rescue Mission (CCRM) began about 70 years ago with a mission to provide “soup, soap and salvation,” to the homeless population in downtown Albany. Over the years CCRM has continued and expanded its efforts to feed both the body and soul, with the goal of giving hope and a positively reinforced path forward to individuals and families.

The City Mission of Schenectady maintains programs and ministries that address the physical, social, and spiritual needs of people who are under-resourced or just need a temporary helping hand This organization does not receive government funding, so it relies on the generosity of community members, churches, and businesses. With a goal to provide HELP for today while fostering HOPE for tomorrow, it is easy to see why this organization is making an impact in the community every day.

Women United – United Way of the Greater Capital Region
Perfect Pitch Sponsorship

On December 6th team members got together at Brown’s Revolution Hall in Troy, NY for an evening of education and networking at ‘Perfect Pitch’ to learn about programs in the community that support families, women, and children. Women United, the host of the event, is a group of energetic, passionate, and philanthropic women empowered by the United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR) focused on making a true impact in our community.  This group is fueled by the belief that their diverse experiences moving through the world as women informs how they can mobilize change to invest in, advocate for, and host events with a mission to drive equity and excellence for all women.

This year’s winner was Working Group on Girls of Schenectady (WGGS). WGGS gives social and emotional support to middle and high school girls in Schenectady by providing safe spaces and meaningful connections for them to develop their own voices. WGGS serves as role models and advocates as these girls navigate the challenges of adolescence. They are taught to teach themselves, to be problem solvers, and to be resilient. WGGS proposed expansion of a new and original program called FRESH (Food, Resiliency, Education, Socialization, and Health). The main benefits of this new and holistic program will be to educate, empower, mentor, and provide sustainable life skills to young women in the Schenectady community. Components of the program include mentorship, leadership, farm-to-table gardening, health and wellness, entrepreneurship, social-emotional learning and community service.
